Clingoe Hill Road Safety Now

On Tuesday 24th April a fatal accident occured on the busy
Clingoe Hill road. University of Essex student Robert Plumber was tragically killed in this accident and the thoughts of the Students' Union officers and staff are with Robert’s family and friends at this extremely difficult time.

Many of you will recall that this is the second such accident in the last 10 months.

The Students' Union is committed to working with all agencies and representatives in the community to implement the safety measures that have been called for over the last 5 years on this dangerous stretch of road. We have had enough of having our concerns ignored.

We are calling for:

- An immediate reduction in speed limit on Clingoe Hill to 50mph
- Provision of lighting on Clingoe Hill in advance of the planned works for the Research Park.

How you can support the campaign:

1. Act safely
For your own safety, please never cross the Clingoe Hill dual carraigeway by foot. This is an extremely dangerous road, with cars travelling at high speed. Instead use the zebra crossing or underpass.

2. Sign the petition
If you share our concerns and frustration, please add your name to the Clingoe Hill Road Safety Now petition at the Downing Street website. We are looking for the support of students, University staff, local residents and anyone that uses the Clingoe Hill road to help us in calling for changes to be made and further accidents avoided.
