Welcome to the University of Essex Labour Society: a society for students who are members or supporters of the Labour Party - but it doesn't matter if you've been a member of the party all your life or if you've only just gotten an interest in politics and are curious about Labour and our values, we're open to everyone. We are supporters of a party that stands for social justice, strong values, decency, rights matched with responsibilities and fairness, and we hope to play a full part in the New Generation rebuilding the Labour Party, ensuring it remains the main progressive force in British politics and working to return it as the party in government after the next election.
The Labour society is part of the Political & Activity federal group of Societies Guild. The Society welcomes all students and staff at the advertised membership below. Non-students and students at other institutions should contact the Sports and Societies Office (sportsandsocs@essex.ac.uk) for details on how to join.
When Do We Meet?
Feel free to come along! We have weekly meetings and socials on Wednesdays at 6pm at the Government Common Room - if you've got any questions, don't be afraid to ask them either on the Facebook group wall or by sending a message to any of our exec.
We have regular topical discussions and are a campaigning force in local and national elections - but on top of that, we're not all just about politics, with regular socials and trips planned throughout the term. Even if you feel you aren't a committed member or a party fanatic, don't let that put you off: come along to one of our meetings or socials to see what we're all about.
To sign up as a member of this club please ensure that you have first registered to www.essexstudent.com and click on the membership payment icon (add to basket) at the bottom of the page, then you can pay via Debit or Credit Card through the online payment system. Alternatively you can sign up as a member of this club by enquiring at the Students' Union Reception by providing your PRID number on your student card.
