The Netball club has 3 teams that compete in the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) league. The club also has 2 teams that compete on a Monday night in a local Colchester league which is a non BUCS competition and is open to all students and staff at the advertised membership price below. Non-students and students at other institutions should contact the Sports and Societies Office (sportsandsocs@essex.ac.uk) for details on how to join.
The Netball Club is a fantastic chance to be a part of a successful, friendly group of people who enjoy playing netball and socialising together. We have had many successes over the past years and wish to continue these successes into the future. Our first team have been very successful and are in to 2B in the BUCS league. They also made it into the final of the BUCS tournament in 2008 and was given team of the year at sports awards in 2009! Our second team were relegated last year to the BUCS league 6B, however are hoping to be promoted back to 5B this year! We also have a third team that complete in BUCS league 8B and has been very successful at getting freshers more involved and spotting potential 1st and 2nd team players!
If you do not want to play competitively, then joining the Netball club is still a brilliant way to meet people and get involved with a club which can lead to some brilliant opportunities. Also, you are able to come along to training for some exercise to keep fit and healthy during your university years! We have many members who just come along to play for fun and fitness so everyone of al abilities is welcome!
