The University of Essex Rowing Club (UERC) was established in 1995. During its short history, the club has been based at various locations around Essex and Suffolk, however finally settled at Ardleigh Reservoir in 2004 where we currently train.
Over the years, the club has grown through the hard work, commitment and dedication of its members allowing it to compete both at local and national levels, at various head of the river races and regattas.
Although primarily set up by students for students, UERC now offers adult membership to the general public. As the only rowing club in Essex, not only does this benefit the local community by making rowing accessible, it will enable the club to grow and develop faster whilst ensuring its long-term sustainability.
For the next year we aim to progress further, not only in competitions but also as a club. Under the guidance of our professional coach our goal is to produce 'performance' teams of both Men and Women. With the help of the University of Essex Students' Union, we will also have a trained student coach who will work under our professional coach in training the Novice and intermediate crews, ensuring continuous improvement, resulting in producing high performance rowers for years to come.
