The Student's Union runs the Easy, Tiger! alcohol awareness and safety campaign to encourage you to play safe!
This Freshers week don’t get too carried away, you have a few years to party and have fun.
Lets be honest, there are HUGE myths about being at University, and just going out drinking to much and having one night stands! BUT its not true, especially now people are paying £1,000s to be here and gain a degree, now I’m not saying its all work, its about a compromise, ensuring that you get the degree you deserve and also having a good time, so you don’t go insane from all the work! So please remember to work hard and play hard!
This year we are running the ‘Easy Tiger!’ campaign, which is just about taking things a little bit easy, and more about enjoying your time here! From time to time you will see our fantastic Easy Tiger!, which will be your guide to life at Essex! Easy Tiger! will be making TV appearances, so look out on R:TV and will be involved in many give aways – so make sure you keep an eye-out!
If you have any questions or want advice, email sam at vpacademic@essex.ac.uk.
We asked Easy Tiger! for a list of hints, tips, dos and donts for you this freshers:
Don’t give in to peer pressure, especially when it comes to drinking, you know how much you can handle, and I don’t think you really want being sick everywhere to be the first impression you give your flatmates!
Do have respect for yourself, just because you are now living away from home, doesn’t mean you can start inviting people back to yours all the time, do whatever you feel comfortable with!
Be aware of yourself and others! Campus is a nice close nit community and we do look out for each other, it’s a great way to make friends and feel safe on campus.
Make sure if you have a problem, even if you are just feeling a little home sick you talk to someone. It doesn’t have to be your flatmates, there are many other places including the Advice Centre, Student Support and Nightline.
Most importantly have fun and don’t do something you will later regret!!
