Start of Campaigning
During campaigning, you must follow all of the campaigning regulations stipulated in the Election Regulations (see below). Essentially the rules are that all publicity must conform to the Union’s Equal Opportunities Code of Practice which prohibits discrimination, be it direct or indirect, on the basis of gender, appearance, ethnic, national, regional or racial origin, age, socioeconomic background, disability, religious or political beliefs, sexual orientation, family circumstances, health, including HIV status, Trade Union membership or
other irrelevant distinction. All publicity must be in English or have
an English translation provided and you should not mention any other candidates either by name
or indirectly unless they feature on your slate. If you wish to refer
to any positions you have held whilst a student at the university you should refer to the period when you held them.
If you wish to display any publicity material around the University all materials must be stamped by the Elections
Committee. The Elections Committee will meet daily during campaigns at 13:00. In order to be approved
at these meetings, posters must be submitted to the Students’ Union
reception by noon. The minutes from the election committee meetings
shall appear on the Elections Noticeboard. Once publicity has been
approved
it will then be printed and you will be notified of the costs.
Candidates must not exceed their allocated budget. Posters cannot be
reproduced using University computers and no candidate is permitted to
use their personal funds to contribute to their campaign.
Candidates are not permitted to use e-mail as part of their campaign or
host their own web pages. Societies may continue to e-mail their
members but no reference should be made to the forthcoming elections.
In the event of any candidates wishing to appeal against a ruling of
the election’s committee or make a complaint forms can be collected
from the Students’ Union reception. All complaints will be dealt with
swiftly by the Union’s Returning Officer.
