Love being active

To help you make the most of your free time, the SU runs more than 150 different clubs and societies. They cover pretty much everything from organized team sports, competing in the national University league B.U.C.S, through to international societies and activities. All of the clubs and societies are run by students which means not only can you join whichever club or society you wish, you can also get actively involved in the running of that club or society - click here to take a look at what you can sign up to!

New to Essex this year is our intra-mural sport league, this means whether you’re serious about your sport or just in it for a laugh, you can compete for your hall of residence against other halls of residence around the campus, with a champion crowned at the end of the year.

Love looking ahead   

The Students’ Union employs over 350 student staff. This means that you can earn some cash without leaving campus. They recruit in February, but you can click here to see the jobs are on offer.

We also offer everything from internships to Essex’s very own version of The Apprentice for you to get involved in - making sure that you have the best possible start to working life after you graduate.

The SU also runs a student TV channel, newspaper and radio station, as well as providing an amazing range of volunteering opportunities to help you gain valuable skills and experience.

The Student’s Union vTeam is the home of student volunteering at Essex, with loads of opportunities to choose from, you can do as many or as little as you like.

The vTeam runs a number of projects which you can get involved in during your spare time. We help students both run and start new projects and set up one off events during term time. Working with Schools, Youth Clubs, Charities and other local organisations, and have opportunities to volunteer both on and off campus on a regular or ad hoc basis. vTeam also accredits all volunteering through our passport scheme and annual awards event the vOscars.

Love fundraising

Getting Involved with fundraising projects is easy and gives you a great opportunity to raise money for worthwhile projects. We do everything from testing your physical limits to testing the limits of your dignity. Take part in events in this country and across the world, give us a project to raise money and we’ll help you achieve your goal.

Fundraising benefits everyone not just the people you are raising money for, many employers now look to your work outside of your degree to separate candidates.

So get involved, raise money for really worthwhile causes, and raise your job prospects too.
