Station Manager, RED Radio

Love radio? Passionate about being heard? Want incredible experience and the opportunity to earn some money? If so, you might be the student we’re looking for.

The Students’ Union’s radio station, RED, is currently recruiting for a new Manager for the next academic year. You would be given the opportunity to build and lead a team of students to deliver a high quality radio station that genuinely connects with students at this University.  RED broadcasts live online at essexstudent.com/red, has its own studio and a team of enthusiastic student presenters and DJs who you would be responsible for getting the very best out of. 

We’re looking for someone with drive, enthusiasm and a genuine passion for radio and taking RED forward over the next year.

The purpose of the role is to improve the professionalism of RED by providing stability and continuity, recruiting and nurturing talent, thus ensuring the station works effectively and delivers high quality material to the student membership.

1. Overall responsibility for coordinating the production and transmission of RED within agreed timescales and budget.

2. To achieve all objectives agreed by the Media Guild within the framework of the Service Level Agreement (SLA).

3. To line manage and appraise the Assistant Manager; to train and develop them to achieve excellent results.

4. To research on an ongoing basis the student opinion of, and satisfaction with RED, reporting findings to the Media Guild Executive.

5. To lead, inspire and coordinate a team of producers, controllers, technicians and heads of music to deliver a high quality product in accordance with the SLA.

6. To identify and assess opportunities for the RED to utilize new methods or procedures to communicate effectively with the student membership.

7. Any other tasks agreed by the Media Guild.
