The University of Essex - RED Radio
Student radio at Essex, under numerous names, has been in existence since 1971, so we’ve got loads for experience of producing great radio.
RED Radio is produced by students from a wide variety of backgrounds, for students in exactly the same position. Producing shows from debate to dance music and entertainment to eclectic mixes. There really is something for everyone.
We broadcast direct from our very own state-of-the-art(ish) studio at the Colchester campus, 7 days a week, 10am - 10pm.
Up until recently RED Radio could be heard locally in the Colchester area on 1404 AM/MW. However, with the ever changing advancements in technology, online streaming has taken over and RED is now solely broadcasted online to the entire world. So wherever in the world you may be, you can be sure to tune into RED Radio.
If you want to find out more about RED, have a look at our Radion Essex Wikipedia page also Wkipedia RED page showing the full history, from 1971 right up to the present day.
If you like what you hear on RED or think you could add something to our station, why not give it a try? You can present, DJ or produce...the possibilities are endless!! We will offer you full training, so if you have never done anything like this before you don’t have to panic - we will support you all the way. Most of the current presenters and DJs on air have not done any radio previous to RED!
Best of all, if you get involved with RED you will have an immense time, meet new people and add something to make your CV stand out from the rest! RED Radio is there for the listeners to enjoy, but at RED we guarantee that you will have great fun too!
RED also gives you the opportunity to gain local recognition from our Media Guild and national recognition from the National Student Radio Awards.
