A queer, neurodivergent, POC-run society for neurodivergent students here at Essex! We strive to provide a safe space for neurodiverse students (regardless of their diagnosis...) by using our own experiences as autistic and ADHD individuals. The AuDHD Society stretches out to more than just students with autism and ADHD. We welcome and encourage students from all walks of life to join our society! Our membership is free; we don't think anybody should have to pay for inclusivity services. Check out our cool executive team below!
Events are run in the afternoon (usually on Tuesdays and every other Saturday at 1-4 pm) to accommodate neurodivergent routines, events are kept informal and accommodating to everyone's unique needs. We also act as a pillar of the student's voice; all of our executives are passionate about neurodivergent needs being met at the University and we are willing to feedback to the University with any questions or worries you have. We are strictly a non-judgemental space, both in events and in our group chat on WhatsApp. We try to get the most accessible rooms and will always make spaces available for wheelchair users. Before every event, we film a step-free access route to the rooms we are in. We strive to have a Wellbeing and Inclusivity Officer, an LGBT+ Officer and a POC Officer to cover all bases for our execs so nobody is left behind. As previously mentioned, our events are throughout the day to accommodate neurodivergent routines and have breaks all the way through so it's not too overwhelming! Furthermore, we have dedicated 'Breakout Rooms' alongside every main room for people to dip into if they need a quieter room.
