Welcome to the Climate Action and Environmental Sustainability Society, (CAESS). We're a student-led organisation dedicated to fighting climate change and protecting the environment through education, volunteering, and activism. CAESS a place for like-minded students to meet and share a passion for environmentalism; to make friends, get educated, and take action together as a community. Film, politics, biomedical science, computer science, history - whatever you study and whatever your skills are, there's a place for you on the CAESS team! Goal 13 of the Sustainable Development Goals published by the United Nations is to: Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts. This society aims to do that in the small ways that we can.
We aim to increase awareness of current environmental issues among students at Essex, create a student platform for problem solving and taking action, and push for the urgent changes needed within and outside the university campus.
We believe humanity can still mitigate the catastrophic impacts of climate change through collective action, and are committed to both environmental and social justice. But we must act now.
We will host a wide variety of activites including talks and panels followed by discussion; workshops where we can discuss ideas, learn, and plan actions aimed at addressing the climate and ecological crises; watch films on various aspects of these issues (about both the problems and potential solutions); organise collaborations with other societies; and arrange regular socials for our members.
