Heavy Metal is without a doubt the most globally recognised music genre, with over 140 counties worldwide at least owning one metal band, from the common places like the UK to the most remote and shocking places like Iran, Greenland and Mozambique. Heavy Metal is a truly respected genre all over the world, with big names outside of Europe and North American making a buzz, such as Demonic Resurrection from India, Myrath from Tunisia, Sepultura from Brazil, Scarab from Egypt and Orphaned Land from Israel.
Ranging from the basic Metal genres: Heavy, Thrash, Death, Black, Speed, Sludge, Stoner, Doom, Avant Garde, Glam, Power, Neo-Classical and Symphonic Metal to the crossing of other genres to make: Folk Metal (Celtic, Oriental, Medieval, Viking, etc), Metalcore, Deathcore, Gothic Metal, Melodic Metal, Nu / Rap Metal, Grindcore, the list goes on and on.
The University of Essex Metal Society invites one and all of whom are metal music fans, those who interested in the most sophisticated music genre to date, or even spreading wings to those from the emo, goth, cybergoth, mod, rocker, scene and any other alternative subculture. We have a bountiful array of exciting ideas roaming around the group, all of which will inevitably make your time at the University of Essex a truly remarkable experience.
