Welcome to Essex Philosophy Society.
The philosophy society holds various kinds of academic and social events. We are a group of students passionate about philosophy- in all shapes and forms. We have regular discussions about philosophy and lecturers from the department are kind enough to regularly participate in our events. Last year we hosted a Phenomenology crash course with great success and the participation of three lecturers. We organize trips to London, to museums and theaters. This year we are lucky to have two lecturers that have agreed to participate in a series of film screenings and discussions all about death, god, and the meaning of life. We also have two trips to London planned, the first will be a visit to the Tate Modern followed by a pub-crawl in Camden and in July we will be organizing a trip to the Marxism 2010 political festival where renowned philosopher and cultural theorist Slavoj Zizek will be speaking.
Although many of members are philosophy students, this is by no means a requirement. Joining the philosophy society will be a great opportunity to get to know the department, explore and enhance your interest in philosophy and of course have interesting discussions with fellow students. The society is run by mentors who can also help answer any questions you may have about essays, courses, or anything related to the department.
If you didn't join up at Freshers Fair you can do so via the SU website http://www.essexstudent.com/society/philosophy/
If you have any questions or would like to get involved feel free to email philosoc@essex.ac.uk
