We are looking for volunteers who would like to work with the Sycamore Fund, to support Young carers (young children who have to take care of their parents/neighbours due to different reasons). This project is perfect for people with an interest in social care and teaching. It gives a great opportunity to gain experience in working with young children (e.g helping with homewrok or going for trips to a museum, London etc.). Mentors are expected to have friendly attitude and be helpful, so that children will be able to enjoy themselves during the meetings. Commitment would be once a week for couple of hours. All reasonable expenses are covered by Sycamore after you are accepted.
Feel like being creative? We are looking for two volunteers, with an interest in marketing and design, to help to redesign Sycamore marketing materials (website, leaflets, newsletter etc.)
Are you interested in environmental issues and would you like to make a difference? We are looking for a volunteer who would promote environmental issues at the Southend campus. Duties include researching possible environmental events/campaigns, keeping in touch with Ethics & Environment frontrunner at the Colchester campus and preparing one off events in cooperation with the E&E frontrunner.
Started by Metal & CoExist, TAP is one out of many deserted spaces that were redesigned to create a spacious place which artists can use to create temporary projects and installations. We are looking for 4 volunteers who would get involved with Metal & CoExist organisations and help to maintain and develop the project.
Are you interested in gardening? Get involved with the Chalkwell Hall Kitchen Garden! Meetings are every Wednesday afternoon from 3:30pm to 6:30pm and October will be time for harvesting, clearing and preparing for autumn/winter. There are also plans for organising a Harvest festival type event on 3 November 2010, where you would be able to enjoy what has been grown and help collecting food for a homeless shelter together with the partner groups (eg. HARP charity) and other volunteers. If you would like to get involved in the project and help organising the event, please let us know!
