Whilst your time at University can often be the best years of your life, there are bound to be times when you need someone to turn to for support, guidance or advice.
That's where the SU Advice Centre comes in.
The Advice Centre is here to help you with any issues that you might face whilst studying at Essex.
Our trained staff can offer advice on a whole range of issues, including housing, extending your Tier 4 student visa, academic issues and student disciplinary matters.
All of our advice is completely free of charge and is strictly confidential and impartial.
Also, as we are part of the Students Union, rather than the University, we can provide independent advice in all matters relating to the University.
We are staffed by a team of fully trained student Frontrunners, volunteers and staff, with constant support from permanent members of staff.
The SUAC Southend currently employs 1 permanent members of staff, 1 part time paid Frontrunner and a team of volunteers.
If you have a question for the Advice Centre, please email us with details of your query and we will be in touch as soon as possible. Pre-bookable appointments are available on Tuesdays and Thursdays 10am-3pm. We will also be running a drop service every Tuesday and Thursday 12.30 - 1.30pm in the Forum so if you have an urgent question please feel free to come and talk to us.
Please note immigration advice is available by appointment only and cannot be dealt with during the drop-in hour.
Things to know about your appointment:
Appointments will be offered on a first come, first serve basis. Please ensure you arrive on time for your appointment. If you are more than 15 minutes late we will not be able to see you and if you miss your appointment we cannot guarantee that we can offer another appointment on the same day. Appointments generally last for 45 minutes unless otherwise specified, if by the end of your appointment further time is needed you will need to book a second appointment.
Please ensure you bring any relevant documentation to your appointment, such as contracts/letters you have received/info about the situation etc. If your appointment is about your student visa renewal you should have completed the form as far as possible and have your CAS from the university and your evidence of funding with you as well as your passport and other relevant documents.
If you know you are unable to make it to your appointment please notify us as early as possible so that we can offer the appointment to other students.
If you are unable to book an appointment, or wish to speak to someone outside of the Southend opening hours, you are welcome to contact our main office in Colchester.
