Welcome to the Guild!
The Students’ Union supports a Societies Guild that covers cultural, religious, political, social and academic interests — there is literally something for everyone. If you want to meet like-minded people or just try something new, joining a society is definitely the way to go.
All societies are open to anyone to join, regardless of gender, ethnic origin, race or sexual orientation. You can visit the Students’ Union reception any time to sign up or find the society in the list and join up right now online.
How to sign up
Signing up to societies is easy, all you need to do is log in to essexstudent.com (sign up here if you haven't already) and then click through onto the society page you'd like to join.
Before joining a society you will need to buy society guild membership, this costs £5 for the year, once you've joined you can join as many societies as you like.
If you are not a student you will need to buy the associate membership first. This costs £10
Can find the society you're looking for? Then why not start it up yourself? All you need is a society start up form (available from SU reception) with 20 signatures from potential members.
Society Awards
With more soc's than ever applying for and achieving awards last year, the quality of societies at Essex is better than ever meaning there will be real competition for Society of the Year. We want to see every society achieving a Standard Award this year and now is the time to think what you need to do to be GOLD! Click on our Awards link on the right hand side of this page to see last years winners, examples of how your society can achieve Gold Standard Status and what other prestigious awards are available and what you need to do to get your hands on them!
Soc's Guild Brand
Last year you, the students, voted for the brand spanking new logo and here it is! Whenever you see this crest, your Guild is proud to be representing you
Volunteering
We have loads of volunteering opportunities available for your society to get involved with, it looks great on CV's and award applications as well as being really good fun and a great way for your society to be active and bond. For more info on Volunteering click on the Opportunities tab at the top of this page.
