Derby day 2008

Welcome to Essex Students' Union Sports and Societies homepage

Here you will find information on all of the sports clubs and societies available at Essex University. In total there are over 160 clubs and societies and you can join as many as you like!

Whether you’d like to represent the University, or you fancy trying a new sport, joining a club is a great way to make friends, get fit and access some of the best social events on campus.

Run by students for students, the Sports Fed supports all the many sports clubs here at Essex. Membership costs just £10 for the year, which will insure you against injury while you play for your club, and get you money off tickets to Sports Fed events.

With 40 acres of land and a top notch sports centre, Essex offers plenty of room for everything from Frisbee to American football. For a more in-depth look at our facilities visit the Sports Centre website.

We have over 40 clubs but If your sport isn’t already catered for, we can help you start your own club. All you need is a club start up form with 20 signatures from potential members.

The Students’ Union supports a Societies Guild, with 120 registered societies covering cultural, religious, political, social and academic interests — there is literally something for everyone with only a selection of our societies listed here. If you want to meet like-minded people or learn something new, joining a society is definitely the way to go.

All societies are open to anyone to join, regardless of gender, ethnic origin, race or sexual orientation. Come along to Freshers Fair on Saturday 7 October to see every society that exists on campus. If you decide to join later, you can visit the Students’ Union reception any time to sign up.

If none of the existing societies appeals to you, then why not start one up yourself? All you need is a society start up form (available from SU reception) with 20 signatures from potential members.
