Education Committee 2010/11
What do we do?
The official remit of the committee is as follows:
Advise Union Council on the implementation of the Union’s Education Policies.
Aid the Vice President Education in the implementation of any Education campaign run by the Union.
Aid and advise the Vice President Education as they undertake their role and responsibilities on behalf of the Union and its members.
Be responsible for the training and communication of the course representatives.
Review the operation and development of the Union’s course representative system and advise Union Council on recommendations.
Provide Council with a report of its activities on a termly basis or as and when requested.
However, the committee’s role is not limited to and confined by the above. We are here for any education related queries you may have.
Christopher Manby
Education Committee Member
Hello, my name is Chris. I am a fourth year law and politics student and a member of your education committee. My remit this year is simple. Promote student issues before the kind of petty ideological politics that tends to overcrowd our campus. I believe in individual responsibility, free speech, and innovation, and I hope to take that onto the committee with me. I think, for example, that the students union needs to reaffirm its support for a zero tolerance coursework submission policy. I am committed to promoting a sustainable solution to the crisis of university funding the UK currently faces, but I think the committee needs to start making practical suggestions once the cuts start to bite rather than just getting bogged down in opposition to them.
