There are a range of executve positions, all of which are up for grabs in the forthcoming 2011 General Elections.
Who can run?
Your Students’ Union (SU) is here to make student life at Essex the best it can possibly be.
The SU was set up by students and is run by a group of students that are elected each year.
Any student can put themselves forward for election and, if they get enough votes, be given the opportunity to lead an exciting, dynamic organisation capable of achieving real change.
So if you think you’ve got what it takes to push things forward and lead your SU, this is your big chance.
How to nominate yourself
Simply download the candidate guide on the right, read through it and then fill in the nomination form. Hard copies are available to pick up from the SU reception. Your completed from must be handed in by 1pm Wednesday 20th October.
Positions
The positions are as follows:
One Student Trustee
They are a representative who
oversee the work of your SU and
ensure that it is financially viable
and are not breaking any laws
Executive positions
• Postgraduate Officer -
Raise any issues with the University around academic studies and support
• National Conference delegate (3 places) -
They are representatives who attend the NUS national and Regional Conference on behalf the students at Essex
• Womens’ conference delegate (1) -
They are the representative who attends the NUS organised conference on behalf the female students at Essex
• Disabled Students Conference (1) -
They are the representative who attends the NUS organised conference on behalf
Faculty Convenors
Support all course representatives within their faculty and represents the SU on various University boards such as Undergraduate board. They sit on Union Council. The positions are as follows:
• Humanities & Comparative Studies
Liberations Officers
They represent students of all different backgrounds by raising issues with the University. They run campaigns and hold events to create more awareness. They also sit on Union Council.
The positions are as follows:
• Mature Students Officer
1 General Representative
These students work with the Participation & Involvement Officer to raise awareness of the SU and any issues that may arise. They will encourage other studenets to get involved with the Union on all levels.
First Year Representative (6)
These students work with the Participation & Involvement Officer to
raise awareness of the SU and any issues that may arise with first year students. They will encourage other first years to get involved with the Union on all levels.
Standing Committees of Union Council
These student committees will work with the relevant officer to raise issues in their particular area. The number of positions available on each committee is shown
in brackets:
