There are a range of executve positions, all of which are up for grabs in the forthcoming 2011 General Elections.
Who can run?
Your Students’ Union (SU) is here to make
student life at Essex the best it can possibly be.
The SU was set up by students and is run by
a group of students that are elected each year.
Any student can put themselves forward for
election and, if they get enough votes, be given the opportunity to lead an exciting, dynamic organisation capable of achieving real change.
So if you think you’ve got what it takes to push things forward and lead your SU, this is your big chance.
How to nominate yourself
Simply download the candidate guide on the right, read through it and then fill in the nomination form. Hard copies are available to pick up from the SU reception. Your completed from must be handed in by 1pm Wednesday 2nd March.
Positions
The positions, and the current postholders, are as follows:
SOUTHEND AND LOUGHTON TRUSTEES
They are campus representatives who oversee the work of your SU and ensure that it is financially viable and are not breaking any laws.
FOUR STUDENT TRUSTEES
They are representatives who oversee the work of your SU and ensure that it is financially viable and are not breaking any laws
EXECUTIVE POSITIONS
• Campaigns Officer – organises SU campaigns on a local, national and international level
• Participation & Involvement Officer – works with the General Representatives, First Year Reps and anyone involved with the SU
• Charity & Fundraising Officer – raises money for local, national and international charities
• Equal and Diversity Officer – raises issues of discrimination within the Union, local, national and international level
• Ethics & Environment Officer – Raise any issue connected with the SU’s ethical and environmental policies
FACULTY CONVENORS
Support all course representatives within their faculty and represents the SU on various University boards such as Undergraduate board. They sit on Union Council. The positions are as follows:
• Law & Management
• Social Sciences
• Science & Engineering
• Humanities & Comparative Studies
LIBERATIONS OFFICERS
They represent students of all different backgrounds by raising issues with the University. They run campaigns and hold events to create more awareness. They also sit on Union Council. The positions are as follows:
• Lesbian Gay Bisexual
and Trans (LGBT) Officer
• Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) Officer
• Mature Students Officer
• Disabled Students Officer
• Women’s Officer
10 GENERAL REPRESENTATIVES
These students work with the Participation & Involvement Officer to raise awareness of the SU and any issues that may arise. They will encourage other students to get involved with the Union on all levels.
STANDING COMMITTEES OF THE UNION
These student committees will work with the relevant officer to raise issues in their particular area. The number of positions available on each committee is shown
in brackets:
