what is union council?

A policy making body of the Students’ Union is Union Council, which meets every three weeks during term-time.

Union Council is made up from student representatives who hold various positions throughout the Students’ Union and the University.

Anyone can attend Union Council meetings as an observer – you can also view minutes from all of the meetings here.

The membership is made up as follows:

The Chair of Union Council
A Representative from every Academic Department
4 Faculty Convenors (Students who lead Academic Representation at a Higher Level one coming from each Faculty)
4 Liberation Convenors (Women's, LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender), BME (Black Minority Ethnic) and SWD (Students with Disabilities)
6 First Year Representatives
10 General Representatives
2 Representatives from each Union Sub-committee
3 Representatives from Loughton and Southend

12 Members of the Executive Committee

All members are democratically elected in appropriate ballots.
