We are seeking committee members to make the big decisions that steer our SU, putting the student voice at the heart of what we do. This is a unique opportunity to leave a lasting impact whilst adding invaluable experience to your CV.

We want student subject-matter experts and passionate creatives from all backgrounds. Whether your interests are in partying, playing, food & drink, social & political issues, or if you’d like to flex the skills you’re developing through your studies, we want your input. No experience necessary. We’re building this together from the ground up.

  • Chair to chair meetings
  • Secretary to take minutes
  • Committee Members to attend and share ideas

THE PERSON WE NEED

DESCRIPTION

ALL ROLES

 

  • Come along to a few meetings over the year to share feedback and ideas
  • You’ll seek input from the wider student community to share with us, ensuring all perspectives are represented
CHAIR

A leadership role, accountable to the whole student community

  • Suits an organised and focused person who is fair & balanced, and loves to work collaboratively
  • You’ll need or want to develop listening & questioning skills and be willing to undertake some training
Secretary

A great communicator who helps push things forward

  • Suits an organised individual who is an excellent listener and not afraid of the occasional deadline
  • You’ll need or want to develop the ability to communicate effectively in writing (you’ll be taking simple notes) and be willing to undertake some training
Committee Members

People who want to make things happen

  • Suits people with opinions, ideas, and ambitions for their University experience
  • You’ll need to gather and share feedback from your community and enjoy representing others at meetings
  • Bring fresh ideas and collaborate with others to bring them to life

WHAT COMMITTEES CAN I JOIN?

 

BARS & CATERING

The Social Space That students built: a truly student-centred space

  • You will be involved in planning and development to ensure all communities are represented and enjoy the space
  • You will help design a varied events package
  • Short meetings every 3 weeks
  • Starting date: Summer Term

SU ADVICE

A Student Welfare Executive Group

  • You will help to ensure that the service provided really meets student needs based on student feedback and experience
  • We’re inviting a critical review on all aspects of the service, helping us to be proactive in our response to current issues you face
  • Your feedback will steer the direction of welfare campaigns
  • Termly 1 hour meetings
  • Starting date: TBC

RETAIL

A student-lead service inviting input from all student communities

  • You will shape the shops around your wants & needs and be at the heart of decision-making
  • Create stores you believe in and love shopping at
  • Approximately 2x 2-hour meetings per term, including product testing
  • Starting date: October 2021

EVENTS

  • You will be given decision-making power on key events on and off campus, including activities over Winter & Spring breaks
  • You will collaborate with us to provide accessible, meaningful, and engaging events
  • Approximately 3 x 30 minute meetings per term
  • Starting date: TBC

JUST PLAY

  • We invite you to collaborate with us on the types of sports & leisure events we provide
  • You will help us to make sure the offer is relevant to your interests and needs with a broader appeal
  • Approximately 3 x 30 minute meetings per term
  • Starting date: Summer Term

SUB ZERO

A Student-lead Events Committee

  • You will be given a say in what events we provide to best serve and represent the interests of all student communities
  • Short meetings every 3 weeks
  • Starting date: Summer Term
