Each year in February, students put themselves forward to run for a full-time, paid position as a Student Leader. They campaign for votes and every Essex student will have an equal chance to 'vote like a student' and choose who they want to be elected into each of the 6 roles. This is the SU Leadership Election.

Vote Em for Empowerment

Hi! My name is Emily, and I am a final-year Sociology with Quantitative Research student.

As a Sociology student I have a deep understanding of women's rights and gender justice, and if elected as Women's Representative I aim to use these insights to ensure the empowerment of underrepresented groups at Essex.

Throughout my four years at Essex I have learned and experienced a great deal as a young women within a male dominated world, and am aware of the hardships that women may face. I am therefore extremely passionate about modern feminism and also about the importance of intersectional equality within women's rights.

  • I believe that every student should have equal opportunities regardless of their gender, race, ethnicity, sexuality, ability, age or social class.

  • Each and every Essex student deserves to have their voices heard and for these voices to be actioned upon.

I would be privileged to listen and to represent you, to fight for your safety and opportunities, and to ensure the empowerment of Essex women.
