Hello, my name is Tyrique Davis. I am currently in a foundation pathway program. I will be progressing onto a History and English Literature Degree next year, and I want to be the next Black Officer.
During my education, I have felt significantly underrepresented and excluded for differences in expression and aspects related to race, such as hairstyle, which was a frustrating experience as it wasn’t related to my education but how I looked. I’ve also developed skills through those challenging moments, such as having patience, being passionate and persistent about topics and experiences that people would undermine, and being fair and open to seeking ways to improve how I deliver or respond. These experiences and skills will benefit me by understanding how to urge issues and suggestions in an appropriate but defiant method.
If I were elected, my primary goal would be to relay the issues and suggestions from students to parliament. I will also ensure that I am open-minded to those suggestions as everyone deserves to feel acknowledged and understood. Your opinion is vital to the path of productive progression to the discussion of representation and potential approach for the benefit of Black Students. I will also ensure that representation of different cultures and backgrounds is backed and celebrated within the University. Blackness has so much richness and layers that should be acknowledged and celebrated.
Your voice and opinions matter and I will establish that it is recognised to help create a progressive environment.
