Each year in February, students put themselves forward to run for a full-time, paid position as a Student Leader. They campaign for votes and every Essex student will have an equal chance to 'vote like a student' and choose who they want to be elected into each of the 6 roles. This is the SU Leadership Election.

JADE MARIE LONG

Running for your voice, your rights, your enjoyment and your inclusion at university. DO NO WRONG, VOTE FOR LONG!

University is Tough.

No matter which university, which campus, or which part of the country. University will challenge us to our limits whether academically, socially or emotionally. It's a massive step up. However, I have found a true home in Essex, and I hope you have too!

My Aims:

  • I will fight for your rights at university.

  • I will try to come up with ways to make food, resources and activities more accessible across all campuses.

  • I will always listen and respect your beliefs. I will try to incorporate what you want into your university experience.

MY BACKGROUND

I joined Essex in October and I'm set to graduate this year with my MSc in Psychology (!!!) I have previously struggled during my undergraduate years to find a sense of community due to being at the smaller of the university campuses I have been at. However, being at the Colchester campus here has shown me what university should be like when I'm living and breathing the heart and soul of a central campus. As your VP welfare, I would like to work with the elected officers for Southend and Loughton to make sure that this sense of community I've experienced in Colchester is passed through to our smaller - yet still just as valued - campuses. I would also love to hear what else is needed from our students to make our SU truly feel like a family.

MY SKILLS

I am passionate. I will continuously fight for what I believe in and will continue to fight until a healthy, respectful conclusion is found. I have fought with admins within my course, I have stood up for my rights and I have made sure that I at least gain the respect that all of us deserve as students within the university. If elected, I am fighting for your rights for the same. I am fighting for equality and ensure a sense of accessibility to resources between all three of our campuses.

I can guarentee that if I am anything, I am compassionate, empathetic, and caring. My experience as a psychology student has taught me this much, and my future career path in helping others will give me the skills to know what the university needs to be doing for us if they aren't already. I will promise to you that I will listen to concerns, I will make sure that complaints are handled effectively and that ultimately, we have an incredible system put in place for the welfare of our students.

I will be at Southend Campus to meet with you on Monday 14th March. I am always available to contact on my Insta for further questions!
