Each year in February, students put themselves forward to run for a full-time, paid position as a Student Leader. They campaign for votes and every Essex student will have an equal chance to 'vote like a student' and choose who they want to be elected into each of the 6 roles. This is the SU Leadership Election.

GRACE BENNETT

We are all in this together, and representing every single student voice is essential to my plan.

My goal is to make community and engagement one of the, if not the most important role in the SU because every single community is the foundation of the University of Essex family.

In my 4 years at Essex we have been shouting into the wind. Students want to be more involved in decisions impacting them, so it's time for this to happen.

My main objectives and goals:

  • That groups feel safe, supported and empowered to celebrate their identity.
  • Create the best university experience possible.
  • That the university goes above and beyond to eliminate racism, sexism, homophobia, xenophobia, and many other issues students face daily.
  • Funding and support for community groups.
  • Fight so everyone is respected, represented and included.
  • Ensure no one is ever left behind.

My plan:

  • Petition for more mixers and greater funding for events, especially for smaller societies/groups.
  • Petition for paying current student officers for their roles (can't exactly solve inequality in your spare time!)
  • To have fun!
  • Reduce the barriers to be a society or club, help from the university to make events for societies easier.
  • Ensure everyone has a safe space to express themselves without barriers or judgment.
  • Reduce fees to access sports. Such as memberships/Just Play.
  • Fun face-to-face events
  • To get the university to engage directly with students, and give weekly progress updates on how change is implemented.
  • Encourage and enable students to organize their own societies.

Who am i?

  • Fourth year Politics student and blades member! #BackTheBlades
  • A friend to confide in, trust, and support you.
  • Experience engaging with the community, by working in youth clubs and the food bank.
  • Passionate and committed to numerous social causes (check insta).
  • Your big sister looking out for you, always x

Uni should be the safest and fun space to be yourself, find who you are, and be empowered to make the changes you want to see.

Vote Grace Bennett for VP community and engagement. Together, we can achieve massive things!
