Each year in February, students put themselves forward to run for a full-time, paid position as a Student Leader. They campaign for votes and every Essex student will have an equal chance to 'vote like a student' and choose who they want to be elected into each of the 6 roles. This is the SU Leadership Election.

Want to experience and access University to the fullest? Then vote for Lucy!

Hi there,

My name is Lucy and I'm a full time wheelchair user. I am also a part of the LGBTQIA+ community. If I am elected as Disability Students' Officer I would like to bring awareness of the Disabled Community and the LGBTQIA+ Community together and raise awareness of the various intersections that exist within the disabled community such as LGBTQIA+ people and people of colour as I feel that these are areas that are not represented enough. I would like to raise the awareness of those who are disabled and a part of the LGBTQIA+ Community as well as those who are disabled and people of colour. Another thing that I would like to achieve if I were to be elected as Disability Students' Officer is to improve the accesibility that is expereinced within the campus. For example, ensuring that all lectures are held in lecture halls that are physically accesible to all those who are attending the lecture. I would also like to bring accesibility to the attention of the entertainment areas of the university as they do not always seem to think about different disabilities when they are putting on events. Also I would like to improve the awareness of Hidden Disabilities as well as Visible Disabilities as they should be treated with the same support. I will also try my best to bring any issues that you come to me with to the attention of the university so that action can then be taken.

I hope that you will vote for me so that I can help you to access and experience Univeristy to the fullest.
