Each year in February, students put themselves forward to run for a full-time, paid position as a Student Leader. They campaign for votes and every Essex student will have an equal chance to 'vote like a student' and choose who they want to be elected into each of the 6 roles. This is the SU Leadership Election.

Your disability matters!

Hi, I’m Nathan and I have Autism Spectrum Disorder. My manifesto would focus on three key areas I think the University needs to urgently address: Improving disability inclusion, promoting awareness of disabilities and academic acknowledgement of your disability.

1. Attempt to improve disability inclusion within the university

I would attempt to see that disabled people were taken seriously throughout the university. This includes safe-spaces for people with sensory conditions or disabled people who prefer a quieter, more controlled area!

2. Work with societies to promote educational awareness events

Awareness is really important; it removes stigma and disinformation. I would work with the Hidden Disabilities Society to promote events regarding disability rights.

3. Improve disability acknowledgement throughout the University

Your chance at the University of Essex matters just as much as everyone else. I would attempt to see a fairer, more transparent extenuating circumstances/late submission process which takes into account your disability. I would hold the SU to account in making sure your rights are fully protected.
