Each year in February, students put themselves forward to run for a full-time, paid position as a Student Leader. They campaign for votes and every Essex student will have an equal chance to 'vote like a student' and choose who they want to be elected into each of the 6 roles. This is the SU Leadership Election.

Why go with the flow, or stand against it, when you could define it?

Why go with the flow, or stand against it, when you could define it?

The reason this is my slogan is because I view the world in a mathematical way. I study Human rights law and am always searching for solutions that can exist in both the society we have now, but the longterm. I am running for Womens Officer for this exact same reason. Society is changing, and I saw this when I came to colchester from Leicester, the most ethnically diverse city in the UK. I didn't think I would feel as comfortable being a minority and yet somehow I feel empowered by the people around me, in a way that being 'different' is now a majority. The standards I have for being exposed to different cultures is incredibly high, and this is what I want to bring to essex

I want to change colchester university in a way that embraces the system we already have. Rather than going against the problems in society I want to embrace minorities and women, and give voices to the suppressed alongside meaningful protests. Not only should we be making our voices louder, but seen in the longterm. I'd love to see art demonstrations that last for months, stalls in the squares on international women's day, and regular mixing of communal societies.
