Each year in February, students put themselves forward to run for a full-time, paid position as a Student Leader. They campaign for votes and every Essex student will have an equal chance to 'vote like a student' and choose who they want to be elected into each of the 6 roles. This is the SU Leadership Election.

strengthen the UOE Black community!

Too many people I look more Asian than I do black and at first glance, you may be thinking "why is this guy trying to represent me, can he even relate to me and my struggles" to this I would say, I believe can, I believe I can represent you just as good as anyone else and that is ultimate because I care. I care about people's voices being heard. I care about problems being solved, and most importantly I care about creating an environment where black students can thrive both academically and socially. As a half-black half-Asian student, I feel as though many people who identify as black and have some sort of black heritage are all too unaware that they can have a say in this SU/University and that their opinions do matter. That is why one of the many things I aim to implement in this role is raising awareness of the role itself, by making sure black students know there is someone who is representing them that they can come to and rely on to see that their feelings and beliefs are taken into consideration. On top of that, I aim to bring black students together by holding mixers and events where students can meet new like-minded people and try to strengthen the already strong black community within the university. Vote for me to strengthen the UOE black community!
