They campaign for votes and every Essex student will have an equal chance to 'vote like a student' and choose who they want to be elected into each of the 6 roles. Hello Mates, 

VANSH MEHRA: ASPIRANT FOR THE UG EDUCATION REPRESENTATIVE (SCIENCE & HEALTH)
My name is Vansh Mehra. I am currently studying BSc Nursing (Adult) at the University Of Essex. I love impacting the lives of people positively wherever I find myself. My hobbies include reading, writing, travelling and playing football. I am vying for the UG Education Representative (Science & Health) and I need your support.

WHY UG EDUCATION REPRESENTATIVE (SCIENCE & HEALTH)?
This position is one of the most important in the Student's Union as the education representative is primarily responsible for safeguarding the academic interests and personal welfare of students as well as ensuring that the Union is acting in a way which promotes the academic interests and welfare of students of this great University.

Furthermore, I strongly believe that the welfare of students is key to attaining academic excellence. It is therefore imperative for students to elect someone who understands their interests and who is committed to safeguarding such interests. I am therefore seeking your support and votes even as I offer myself to serve you in the capacity of UG Education Representative (Science & Health).

WHY VOTE FOR ME?

I’m passionate, driven, determined, proactive and approachable, these are all the types of traits you would expect a candidate to say when running in an election? Although this does not tell you why I am running for the role of UG Education Representative (Science & Health). I am running for Science & Health UG Education Representative this year as I want to continue representing the students and make sure that the student voice is heard and the overall student experience continues to improve year on year. I know that I’m having an amazing experience here at University Of Essex and want students to be able to have a great experience here as well.

Also I am not to just after the title of being Students’ Union member, but I wish to continue and complete the initiatives that I have started this year as a student.

Initiatives which I am looking to complete from this year are:

  • Continue working on establishing new media platforms (such as video diaries, podcast etc) in which students can voice their opinion and experiences. 
  • Carry on the developments with our societies in our new society tiering system, as well support our new and existing societies expand and increase their membership and engagement. 
  • Improve the understanding and relationship with academic staff to make them aware of the specific support we can offer here at the Students’ Union. 
  • Alongside the initiatives which I wish to continue on from this year there are several new ones which I would wish to address next year: 
  • Increase interactions between our home and international students to promote a better campus culture.
  • As I feel improved relationships will not only improve the social experience at university but will have a positive impact on the academic and learning experiences. 
  • Improve communications between the University and Students.
  • Increase the amount of activities happening at both Campuses. 
  • Promote Campus Community.
  • If at any point, you feel that you have be discriminated or marginalized in any way, please tell me immediately!

Current Solution: Such infantile behaviour are not to be tolerated in UOE! As a modern institute of higher education, this will be dealt with seriously and swiftly to ensure a safe and professional environment for you. I will try to keep you anonymous throughout the investigation if requested.

  • I am aware that some optional modules might not be able to meet its high demands.

Current Solution: I pledge to communicate with the faculty and departments, and come up with a resolution to accommodate the extra demand so that you have the liberty to pursue academia!

  • Academics aside, it is crucial for me that we stay bonded and support each other.

Current Solution: If desired, I will hold more social events like zoom meetups or among us sessions or a night out(if possible). Do tell me if you have any suggestions!

  • Improvement 1: As said above that our course is new, I am sure that the department is willing to accept feedback from us on how we can improve our learning experience, be it what kind of modules we want, or what kind of workshops we should have!
  • Improvement 2: It is understandable that the discussion forum for modules could be hard to navigate with so much people being on it. If you feel that your answers had not been answered or have been missed out, approach me!
  • Improvement 3: Books recommended for modules are sometimes limited or unavailable. This is concerning to us, especially to people who cannot afford the pricey books! Thus I will be sure to propose to the faculty to allocate more funds towards providing academic materials to everyone, especially those who cannot afford it!
