Your choice. Your voice. Jp for Staff Rep
The SU lives and breathes through its student staff. We are the people manning the bars from Top bar all the way down to Sub Zero to allow our fellow students to let loose and have fun. We are the ones restocking shelves and helping customers out at the su store for all their shopping needs. We are the ones making sure their coffees are perfect and their pastries are warm and fresh every morning at the Greenhouse Cafe and the Kitchen. I strongly believe that the campus thrives off student staffs dedicated work, which is why I believe I'm the best person to represent us.
Hi, my name is James Pearson. I'm a second year Journalims and English Literature student. I've had the privilege to work for the SU for almost two years now starting as a Bar Staff member at Sub Zero but now a Bar Supervisor. When it comes to a leadership role I do that everyone day at work. Running a bar with my fellow bar staff guiding them where to go and how best to do our jobs. In the past I've also held many roles such as Head Boy through my time in education. Most of my time at University has been within the SU I've experienced the ups and downs, the highs and lows. I understand what we go through every day and how important it is for us to have a common voice.
I hope that with this role I'll be able to bring the change that the staff want rather than the change people think we want. I want to be able to listen to my fellow staff members, and give them a chance to talk as a collective as well as individuals.
As for what I'll fight for? That will depend on what you want. What the student staff wanna see change. However there are things I'd like to set out focus on. Such as more flexible contracts to allow staff to move between night and day shifts as well as move between venues, better benefits on campus for those working for the su. As well as better recognition for the roles we play in day to day life on campus.
I want to recognise you, my fellow SU staff, by representing you and campaigning for change. And hopefully improve our lives on campus together.
