Black History Month - Sexualization of Ethnic Minorities

23/10/2017 - 23/10/2017

6pm - 8pm

5N.7.23

The Sexual Awareness society will be hosting a talk on the sexualization and/or non-sexualization of black minorities. We will be tackling topics such as porn, fetishism, and negative stereotypes such as: the objectification of black women in the media; the existence of 'preferences' regarding the ethnical background of a possible partner, which may be either positive or negative towards black people; and the negative stereotypes portraying black men as more likely to commit sexual crimes.

Our speaker will be Dr. Laila Haidarali, the Departmental Disability Liaison Officer and expert on African American history, black women and U.S. women’s history, sexuality, and race, gender and representation.
