Dir. Andrei Tarkovsky | USSR | 1979 | 2 hr 42 mins

The 2nd in our Sci Fi series, we screen the classic film Stalker by Andrei Tarkovsky.

In a future world that has been seemingly ravaged by war and poverty there exists a myth of hope among the people – a forbidden place known only as the Zone, the heart of which, if reached, grant’s one’s inner most desires. Two men - a writer and a professor - hire someone known as the Stalker; a guide who can navigate the treacherous and confounding path that leads to centre of the Zone.

Released in 1979, the film was instantly recognised as seminal, with the British Film Institute ranking it 29 on its list of the "50 Greatest Films of All Time".

Stalker will be introduced by Professor Shohini Chaudhuri, Centre of Film Studies, University of Essex.

Drinks and snacks are served.
