Every year the SU and vTeam team up to arrange a food collection for Colchester Foodbank. 586,907 three day emergency food supplies were given out to families in the first 6 months of this year. This is 13% increase from previous year and almost a half of these meals are given to children.
People from different backgrounds and different circumstances come to use Foodbank, you can’t define a typical client. Sometimes it’s families with from low income backgrounds, sometimes it’s people who were advised to stop working due to their wellbeing who now can’t afford to eat, and often it’s people’s lives being turned upside down.
“As a parent, to not know if you’re going to be able to feed your children is shameful and degrading. Always knowing the foodbank is there puts your mind at rest a bit; knowing you can go there and get support is brilliant.”
There'll be 3 collections point on campus between December 4th and 13th: The Store, The Extra Store and SU Reception. You can drop off your donations during their opening hours and we'll be delivering all donations on Thursday, December 14th.
You can donate non-perishable food items like cereal, soup, pasta and pasta sauce, rice, beans, tinned meat and vegetables, tea and coffee, tinned fruit or biscuits. You can also donate non-food items like toileteries, household items or baby supplies.
You can also volunteer through vTeam to help us collect the donations from campus accommodation, it'll only take 2 around hours.
