Are you passionate about putting students in charge of their own education? The focus for our department is meeting the first of the Student Union Promises, "To help me get an amazing degree (qualification)". We need a committed student who wants to motivate students to get involved with the structures in the institution to make positive changes in education at the University.
WHAT YOU'LL DO.
THE DAY TO DAY.
The faculty convenor is the prime student representative for the students within the Humanities. The faculty convenor will liaise with faculty coordinators (staff members), collect feedback from them and represent the views of students in their faculty at all required university meetings. The faculty convenor will engage in research to ensure that they are aware of the wider issues that may affect students in their faculty. This will be through the SSLC process, but also include through on-line surveys, focus groups and case work.

We're a mix of students from 135 different countries of every age, gender, sexuality, religion, year of study and shoe size. We'll look after you whatever.
Your Responsibilities
- Represent students through the Students Union across faculties and through the SSLC process and university committees.
- Communicate regularly with the VP Education, lead reps and report back regularly as directed by your line manager (Faculty Coordinator).
- Working with faculty representatives, lead department reps and course reps to gauge student opinion using different mediums on a wide variety of issues prior to university meetings and as instructed by the line manager.
- Feedback regularly to the Student’s Union education team through any prescribed structure. This will include feedback to different stakeholders including students, department leads, Student’s Union executive officers and line manager (Faculty Coordinator).
- Work to and with the education team by attending team meetings, 121 and briefings as appropriate.
- Develop an excellent working relationship with your Head of Departments, Directors of Education, Deans and Deputy Deans relevant to your Faculty.
- Ensure that you take an active part in other SU educational campaigns such as the Faculty Student Voice Reports and exams campaign.
- Liaise with the Southend Convenor and E15 representatives to ensure that students’ feedback is communicated to the appropriate faculty committee.
- Communicate with the executive officer team as appropriate.
- Any other duties, as may be reasonably required, from time to time.
