Please note that candidates without relevant entertainment experience e.g. booking nightclub entertainment (DJs, bands etc.) or running festivals (or equivalent) will not be considered. This is not a job comparable to an events manager role.

WHAT YOU'LL DO. 
THE DAY TO DAY.

Reporting to the Operations Manager (Licensed Trade and Catering) you will build the range of nightclub events and  licensed  trade activities offered within our Bars and Nightclubs. You'll have an extensive knowledge of musical acts and keep up to date with music trends to ensure we provide a varied and engaging line up throughout the year. You'll be making sure these events are well publicised and promoted and will be building relationships with DJ and live music agencies to promote Essex SU as a venue of choice for performers. You will be expected to work regular late nights and weekends in line with venue opening times.

Your Responsibilities

The things you'll be looking after

  • Create a vibrant and exciting entertainments program of day and evening events that meets the needs of our diverse membership, including non-alcoholic events
  • Support Venue Duty Managers in delivering entertainment and events across all licensed trade venues, driving sales and engagement
  • Liase with agents, artists and acts to ensure requirements are met and the experience of performing at Essex is excellent which will include regular Evening and Weekend shifts
  • Develop a DJ, promo and photographic team for appropriate events and provide all aspects of Line Management
  • Project Management support of the award winning Summer Ball
  • Gather, analyse and interpret feedback from members in relation to past, future and 'wish list' events
  • Work to promote all SU events through up to date and relevant channels, including the SU website, social media and poster advertising, developing and growing social media channels, ensuring the wider SU is kept up to date
  • Investigate and secure resources to support events, e.g. decorations, ensuring all events remain within budget
  • Research themes, artists and upcoming acts for a range of events and activities, keeping up to date with trends and acts
  • Support the delivery of an NPS score in line with Union targets across all venues and produce plans to help Venues achieve a world class NPS score
  • Work with the HR Department in producing Student Staff Training programs that are consistent across all the venues
  • Undertake Licensed Trade Duty Management shifts as required
  • Support the Operations manager to ensure that financial targets are monitored and met
  • Ensure that Health and Safety regulations are met at all times, recording and reporting accidents and incidents
  • Work on relevant projects as required
  • Undertake regular and appropriate CPD activities

 

 

 

Who you are

You will need...

ROLE SPEC

Essential  Desirable

Demonstrable experience of working as a manager or supervisor in a relevant field

 

Able to evidence delivery of an excellent customer service to a wide range of stakeholders

 

 Evidence of successfully leading and motivating teams of staff and/or volunteers

 

Relevant professional or management qualification, or willingness to achieve

 

Previous experience of project management and evaluation

Previous experience of setting and monitoring budgets

 

Knowledge of risk assessments, health and safety and safeguarding considerations in relation to relevant activities

   

Experience of all aspects of Line Management, including recruitment, development and appraisal

 

Good IT skills i.e. word, access, excel

 

Excellent written, oral communication and presentation skills

 
Excellent problem solving, negotiating and influencing skills  
Experience of analysing and producing financial reports

Holds a personal licence (or is able to undertake and pass)  
Extensive knowledge of booking artists, dealing with agents and the offer process  
Understanding of the Ents market in relation to Students' Unions  
Experience of promoting and publicising events through a range of channels including current social media platforms as well as more traditional print media  
Demonstrable experience of shift management in busy licenced venues, including managing staffing budgets
