WHAT YOU'LL DO. 
THE DAY TO DAY.

As a Starbucks Barista, you will create the Starbucks Experience for our customers in the SU Bar by providing legendary customer service with prompt service, quality beverages and products, and maintaining a clean and comfortable environment. You will work as a team member to assist the management in achieving and exceeding membership and customer expectations in line with the Vision & Values of the Students' Union. The post-holder will be trained in till operation and sales, customer service, stock rotation, stocking, creating drinks to the correct Starbucks standard, operating the hot drinks machine and cold beverage station, dealing with hot food and drink, product knowledge and promotions.

We're a mix of students from 135 different countries of every age, gender, sexuality, religion, year of study and shoe size. We'll look after you whatever.

Your Responsibilities

  • Consistently promote the culture, values and mission of both Starbucks and the Students' Union
  • Excellent customer service - dealing with customer enquiries, taking orders, cash handling and till operations
  • Be aware of and adhere to licencing law whilst working in the bar area
  • Keep calm during busy periods and special events to keep operating to standard
  • Evaluate customer needs and needs of the bar area
  • Recognise potential issues, communicating this to the team and management to ensure an efficient service
  • Assist in training new staff by positively reinforcing successful performance 
  • Follow the Students' Union operational policies and procedures, including those for cash handling, safety and security, to ensure the safety of all team members during each shift
  • Working with the Bar Team, maintain a clean, tidy and organised area
  • Must be punctual and reliable 
  • Provide quality beverages and food products consistently to the highest standards, adhering to all recipe and presentation standards
  • Meet health & safety, and sanitation guidelines
  • Ensure all operarional procedures are followed correctly
  • Work with all team members to ensure agreed standards, procedures and targets are met, monitored and in accordance with the Vision & Values of the Union and the area you work in 
  • Any other duties, as may be reasonably required, from time to time

Experience working in a related field                  
Good organisational skills and time management  

Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders and deliver excellent customer service

 
Ability to display tact and diplomacy  
Ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team  
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.  
Ability to complete essential training in relation to the position

ROLE SPEC    
Experience and understanding of the needs of the Student Membership  
Have excellent interpersonal skills  
Ability to operate appropriate tills and electronic equipment  
Ensure attention to detail at all times  
Ability to work in a democratic structure with elected officers  
Able to work fair share of weekend shifts  
First Certificate in Food Safety - All staff working in Retail, Bars and Catering are expected to achieve this
