Neurodiversity and Mental Health Society *RATIFIED*

Aims

  • Through the society, we hope people will find the ability to be comfortable and have a group of like minded individuals (as neurodivergent people and those with mental illnesses often experience discrimination and intolerance)
  • Through the society, we aim to get people specific help for the studies that is specialised for their neurotypes and/or mental illnesses (as standard study tips or support may not be helpful for everyone)
  • Through the society, we hope to raise a discourse about ableism and discrimination that neurodivergent people and those with mental illnesses often experience, and challenge it as a society
  • The society would hope to shape how the university supports those with atypical neurotypes and/or mental illnesses (as often these people share experiences of teaching staff not fully understanding what their neurotype and/or mental illness entails)
  • The society would hope to raise the awareness of all students on all the different neurotypes and/or mental illnesses a person can have, especially giving advice on how to get diagnoses or support, no matter what they struggle with
  • We want to work with Student Support to achieve our aims and objectives

Objectives

  • Raising awareness and acceptance
  • Educational support for those with atypical neurotypes and mental illnesses
  • Fundraising for selected relevant charities
  • To provide safe spaces (socials, discussions, etc.) for everyone to attend, but specialised for those with atypical neurotypes and/or mental illnesses (for example, a social with quiet music, and no obligation to take part in everything)
