Lesbian, gay, bisexual and queer+ officer
This month I’ve been working with the Trans+ officer and the LGBT+ network committee to plan LGBT+ History Month, which will take place in February. We have loads of great events planned, starting on the 2nd February with a fundraiser on Square 3 in aid of Outhouse East. You’ll be able to find out more information from the LGBT+ Network social media, and more information will be going up on the SU website. We’re currently looking for performers, writers and film makers to perform at our queer poetry and film night, so please drop us an email at email@example.com.
I’ve also been in discussions with the Sports Department to talk about rolling out LGBT+ inclusivity workshops for Blades members. This is to make sure that all LGBT+ students feel comfortable participating in sports at Essex, and to make sure that non-LGBT+ students doing sport are equipped to deal with bystander related LGBT+ issues. We’re looking at rolling at workshop training before Derby Day so stay tuned for subsequent announcements.
The SU Leadership Race is coming up, and we have 2 officer positions up for election. LGBQ+ Officer is up for anyone that self defines as LGBTQ+, and Trans+ Officer is open for anyone that self identifies as trans+. Both these roles will lead the LGBT+ Students Network and be an advocate and voice for LGBTQ+ students at Essex and beyond.
