Lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans* officer
This month I have been focussing on planning LGBT* History Month, which is happening in February. I have been in contact with several of the sports teams and society execs to make sure that the month is a huge success.
I have also organised and held a vigil for Trans Day of Remembrance to remember the 295 victims of transphobic violence. A huge thank you to everyone that attended the vigil.
This month, we have had 2 Ignites – the first was themed around BAME artists in celebration of Black History Month, and the second was all about the 80s. We’ve got one more this term – keep your eyes peeled for themes and dates!
I’ve also been dealing with ongoing issues relating to photography at Ignite; instead of putting them on the SU Facebook they will instead be uploaded on a safer online environment.
I’ve been working with various departments in the Students’ Union to review some staff sensitivity training that will raise awareness of LGBT* issues that are currently not being dealt with. Hopefully, this will deal with difficulties that LGBT* students face especially in Students’ Union venues.
Next month, one of our NUS LGBT* representatives, Melantha, will be joining us as myself and VP Welfare and Community Jess work towards launching Out in Sport at Essex again.
If you have got any questions or comments about my report please post them below or contact me at email@example.com.
