Lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans* officer
This month I have been hard at work implementing the planning for LGBT* History Month, which is just round the corner in February! This has involved lots of work with different societies, speakers and the rest of the SU exec team to make sure that the month is enjoyable and informative for all. Our first event will be on the 30th of January, so save the date!
I’ve also been working with Sarah, our Women’s Officer, and the Feminist Society to help organise travel to the Women’s March on London on the 21st January. If you’re interested in attending and would like to find out more, please contact Sarah firstname.lastname@example.org.
Along with Jess, our VP Welfare and Community, I met with Melantha, the NUS’s LGBT+ Officer (women’s place) along with several exec members of the Blades teams to discuss Out In Sport, a campaign Essex has run previously but has lapsed in recent years. This discussion was really informative with lots of great ideas on how we can implement the campaign over the next few weeks.
I’ve also become a part of a group with LGBT* reps from different universities across the country. This has been extremely beneficial as it’s allowed me to collaborate with other reps from our area, and also, with NUS LGBT* Conference coming up soon, this means that we can all discuss policy in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere for the benefit of LGBT* students all over the UK.
Keep your eyes peeled for LGBT* History Month publicity over the next term!
