LGBT STUDENTS OFFICER
For the summer term, there will be two Ignite events at the start and end of term. Due to event conflicts in Frango’s, Ignite has been moved to a Tuesday. I was hesitant to change it, but knew it was the best option for this term and wouldn’t conflict with other liberation events.
We are continuing to plan and promote this event for the International Day against Homophobia and Transphobia on 21st May. It will be a 5 a- side football tournament event for students and young people to join a team and have fun whilst also being educated about LGBT* issues. I am working with Essex FA and the Essex LGBT Alliance to put on this event for all students and would hope to effectively engage and entertain everyone taking part.
LGBT* CAMPUS PRIDE
I am planning a LGBT* campus pride for the 1st June on square 3. This was a point on my manifesto that I was determined to fulfil, as I think it would be a great opportunity for LGBT* students who may not be able to go to other pride events to get involved. It is still in the planning stages, but I hope to have a DJ and a number of stalls including face painting, cakes, food and information stalls for students. I am excited for this event and hope it will end the term on a bright note!
