COLCHESTER CULTURAL CRAWL
Our Colchester town is filled with hidden gems and a wealth of history - indeed, Colchester is Britain's oldest recorded town. In order to introduce local British culture to international students, I am leading a Colchester Cultural Crawl this 8th of November. Follow us on a trip to Colchester Castle Park, Hollywoods Museum, the Minories Gallery and Firstsite Gallery for a taste of what Colchester has to offer!
INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS DAY
Essex is made up of over 14,000 students from over 150 countries from all over the world. In order to recognise the significant contributions of international students towards our institution, myself and Cultural societies of the University of Essex will be planning an initiative in honour of International Students Day on the 17th of November. We welcome any and all suggestions regarding the celebration of this day - please send it to email@example.com.
NATIONAL INSURANCE INTERVIEWS
The Financial Literacy Talks for International Students held on the 11th and 18th of November attracted over 140 students. They were given a crash course in budgeting, available banking services in the UK, as well as part-time working opportunities in the UK. Attendees were also able to sign up for National Insurance Interviews on campus. Please note that the on-campus NINo interview slots are now full. Students are encouraged to apply for NINo by calling the NINo hotline displayed at https://www.gov.uk/apply-national-insurance-number.
MID AUTUMN MOON FESTIVAL AND DIWALI CELEBRATIONS
Our Mid-Autumn Moon Festival on the 4th of October and the Diwali Celebrations on the 19th of October drew an estimated 300 attendees at each event! Students were treated to cultural performances, free traditional cuisine and participated in cultural activities such as a lantern-making workshop and a Rangoli demonstration. Cultural Societies such including the Asian, Tamil, Malaysian and Brunei Society took part in these celebrations. Essex Students' Union is proud to celebrate such auspicious events and welcome students of all backgrounds to all our cultural festivities.
ENGAGEMENT WITH GLOBAL FORUM
Essex's Global Forum consists of international academic and non-academic staff at the University of Essex. In my role as VP International, I have engaged consistently with the Global Forum team and am discussing possible collaborations during our One World Essex Week this coming February 2018 to highlight the contributions of the international community to the University of Essex and beyond.
