Officer Report

VP Welfare and community

Welcome back to Essex and Happy 2017! It has been lovely to hear about what you have been getting up to in the Winter Break and was great to see some of our Exchange Students reactions to seeing snow for the first time.

I took some annual leave over the break in order to spend some time resting with family and friends in preparation for the very busy term we have now!

Here is some of the stuff I have been getting on with this month:

SU Advice

I worked with SU Advice on some cases they have had over the past few weeks. As always I enjoyed working with our fab team to get some great wins for students.

Welcome back to our Members

I really enjoyed being a part of the welcome back campaign, giving free tea, coffee and soup out to SU Members. It was lovely to meet so many members I have never spoken to before.

Stanway Learning Centre

I went to visit some local school children at the Stanway Learning Centre. I spoke to them about my role and what sort of issues students face. It was lovely to be involved in the local community in this way and I am looking forward to going back to see the children again.

Mental Health

I am currently working with the University to develop a plan for mental health across our campuses. We are hoping to create a campaign that reaches out to all of our students.

All Student Meeting

I attended an All Student Meeting and Exec Officer Question Time, it was wonderful to be able to talk to my membership about the issues that affect them and the things they want us to change.

NUS

It was great to have Richard Brooks, VP Union Development come to our Colchester Campus to talk to students about what we get from our affiliation fee. As always it was great to see Richard talking directly to our members to ask for their concerns.

Election season will soon be upon us, and I would like to offer my well wishes to anyone looking at running for the positions on offer! Make the most of the experience and learn from what you do. Celebrate the successes and improve from the setbacks.

As always please feel free to email me at vpwelfare@essex.ac.uk if you have any questions.

Many Thanks

Jess
