Essex Blades Ultimate Frisbee
Ultimate Frisbee is an intense combination of both netball and rugby. Although it is a non contact sport, Ultimate is packed with competitiveness and adrenaline as it is a fast paced sport requiring constant movement form all team players. Ultimate Frisbee can be played in either a team of five (indoors) and a team of 7 (outdoors) and consists of either men's team, women's team or mixed. As Ultimate is a non-contact sport, no specific gender is at a particular advantage!
Ultimate is a great sport to get involved in as there are complex throws, layout defending and sliding catches all the time making it one of the most energetic and fast paced games available at Essex Uni,
The world of Ultimate is extremely social (there are no referees as players play fair through mutual respect) and we at Essex continue with this tradition by incorporating Frisbee based games into our training schedules and generally having a good time at trainings.
Renowned as one of the most social groups on campus, Essex Ultimate has grown drastically over the past year recruiting almost 30 new players, with an even spread of genders and nationalities Essex Blades Ultimate Frisbee really are a great bunch of people to get involved with. On a social side, Essex Blades are often seen out together at various nights out on campus, including the Sports federation night where there have been fancy dress themes including military, cowboys/girls, zoo party and chav night.
The possibilities are endless with Essex Blades Ultimate Frisbee as there is also the chance to join the county side who often come and train on campus with our team, so you don't only get to learn from the best, you also get to play for the best!
Training is two, two hour based sessions a week, one generally for beginners and one for more intense tournament training. All training sessions are run by fellow senior players and sometimes Essex County players but there is no additional coach fees to pay as there are with many other sports clubs at Essex.
To top it all off, there are plenty of opportunities to play in tournaments and represent Essex as a university as our team is relatively small compared to most, and there are a constant bombardment of tournaments sprouting up all over the country on all three surfaces, hard ground, grass and beach!
Summer trainings see the Essex Blades move to the beach to train (weather permitting) as in the summer there are possibilities of Beach games either in England or abroad.
