Hello, and welcome to the University of Essex Fencing Club. Students have been fencing at the University for nearly 20 years. This is a unique, Olympic sport that exercises not only the body but also the mind. Strength, speed, and accuracy are important, but equally so are strategy, determination, and confidence. Our club trains in all three weapons, (foil, sabre, and épée), so there’s something for everyone.
This may well be your first opportunity to experience fencing, and at a low market cost. We compete in inter-university competitions, as well as running internal tournaments. We are a sociable, fun, and yet competitive club.
The Fencing Club is aimed towards beginners. Please do not be intimidated if you have not fenced before. The majority of our membership is always comprised of beginners. This year’s committee were all new to the sport before coming to the University. Equally, experienced fencers need not worry about being too good. We have professional coaching and some experienced members.
