   UNIVERSITY OF ESSEX
                 SKYDIVING CLUB

From the true Adrenaline Junkie or extreme sports enthusiast through to those looking for that once in a lifetime experience or charity jump, UESC has something for you.

This is whats on offer from our dedicated executive team at UESC

RAPS Static Line

Your first skydive will involve jumping out of a plane by yourself at 3000 feet but your parachute is automatically opened for you, so all you need to worry about is your exit and four seconds of free fall! Most of our club members choose to do static line jumps as its cheaper and lets you progress at your own pace.

Tandem Skydive

Jumping out of a plane attached to a qualified skydiver at 10,000 feet. You don't need as much training as the RAPS jump as your skydiving instructor will be helping you jump out of the plane, deploy yout parachute and help you land. Ideal for those who would love a once-in-a-lifetime experience and may not be so keen on jumping out of a plane by themselves!

Accelerated Free Fall (AFF) Skydive

The more expensive option, but you can become a qualified skydiver in 10 jumps! Your first jump will be from 10,000 feet and you will free fall for much longer then four seconds and be expected to deploy your own parachute as well. You will get two professional skydivers who will free fall alongside you to ensure your free fall position is correct. The ultimate adrenaline rush for the extreme sports nut! Convinced Yet?

We are a sport that is very weather dependent, but we do try to go up to the drop zone once a week. If you fancy seeing skydiving in action and check out the planes we use, you can also tag along and watch our members jump. We try to organise socials for a good get together that doesn't involve being up near the clouds, and anyone who hasn't skydived are more then welcome to come along and join our socials.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much will it cost?

The cost for all courses, except the charity jumps, depends on the number of people getting trained i.e. 3 people £150 each, 5 people £100 each (NOTE THIS WAS JUST AN EXAMPLE). For RAPS we usually have about 5 people in each group so it costs £145 each for one full day training and 1 jump the next day, after that it would be £35 per RAPS jump. For Tandem we have between 3 to 5 people in each group so it will cost between £175 to £195 each and this only is for 30 min traning and 1 jump, after that you have to pay the full price again if you wish to take another Tandem jump. For AFF you will take different levels so for the start its between £310 to £395 for 1 to 3 people but please, if you wish to start an AFF course speak to one of the exec.

How do we get there?

Transport is normally provided by the club, however if this is not possible then fuel costs (subject to conditions) will be paid for by the club.

When does the course start?

The president of the club arranges training when there are enough people interested and the training dates are arranged according to the trainees timetable. So when everyone in a group is free on a certain date suggested by the president, then everyone will be taken on that date. Other training groups will be constantly made and dates will be arranged for them.

Can I do just one jump?

Yes, you can. You can either do one single RAPS and not continue to get you licence or just a Tandem. It's always better to do RAPS because you get a greater experience, it's cheaper and if you wish to jump again (which most people do after their first jump) then you can jump at a  cheaper rate unlike Tandem where you have to pay the full cost again.
