Hello, and welcome to the University of Essex Table Tennis Club. Table Tennis is one of the most enjoyable and satisfying sports to take part in, and one of the most exciting and exhilarating to watch.
Membership
Here at Essex we are a friendly club with a diverse membership. We welcome all levels of play from those with experience to complete beginners, so do not feel intimidated if you have only played recreationally or never at all. We would like to encourage players with disabilities to join us too; the club is committed to increasing both knowledge and awareness of disability table tennis.
Training
We run two training sessions each week where members can improve their techniques through practice, play matches against each other, or just have a casual knock-about. We own a table tennis ball machine (“The Robot”) which is both fun to use and very helpful for training purposes. Our more experienced players can provide basic coaching for beginners; we have members who have taken part in the UKCC Level 1 Table Tennis Coaching Award.
We like to mix fun and competition here at the Table Tennis Club. We run a ‘ladder’ so that members can challenge each other and test their skills. There will be internal tournaments held at various stages of the year too, with all abiltiies welcome of course!
Team Matches
For those with a more competitive streak, we currently have one women's team and two men's teams which compete in the British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) league on Wednesdays. As well as the team competition, BUCS hold an Individual Championship annually. We also have a team that competes in the Colchester and District League. You can register your interest in playing for these teams by contacting the relevant team captain. If you are interested in playing for the women's team please get in touch with the club president (all contact details below).
Training times
Training is in the main sports hall on Monday's from 7pm to 8:30pm and on Friday's from 7:30pm to 9pm in the Activity Hall 2.
