JOINING AND PAYMENTS:
To join the volleyball society, a payment of £20 is required as well as a mandatory £10 fee to join the university’s ‘Sports Federation’ – this basically acts as an insurance against sports related injuries.
In addition to these fees, it is required for all members to obtain a ‘Passport to Sport’ (of any package) in order to use the facilities at the university to be paid either online, or at the gym.
During the year, payment for session fees will also be required.
All of these payments can either be made online via the Essex Student website (please scroll down to ‘Add to Basket’ button), or by visiting ‘The Students Union’ reception located in Square 3.

COMPETITIONS AND EVENTS:
Currently, both the men’s and women’s team participate in the ‘British Universities and College Sports’ (BUCS) where we compete with other university teams from all over the United Kingdom - currently, Essex competes on South Eastern Conference circuit.
Following the results of the 2009/2010 season, the Women's First Team will be competing in the top division of the South Eastern Conference, tier 1A, whereas the Women's Second Team will take part in league 2A. Currently, both Men's First and Second team participate in league 2B.
Our volleyball teams also take part in ‘Derby Day’ which is an annual competition of various sports between ‘The University of Essex’ and ‘The University of East Anglia’ – our University being the defending Volleyball Champions in both the men’s and women’s team.
Friendly matches between the University teams and local clubs have also been arranged and look set to continue this year.
Apart from meeting new people during training sessions, the Volleyball Society also arranges many socials during the year and is the perfect way for our members to get to know each other off the court. Details of such socials are regularly emailed to members and announced during training.
